Balloon Sinuplasty is an in-office minimally invasive procedure that allows the surgeon to re-open the sinus pathways with a tiny balloon. The Balloon Sinuplasty devices are flexible, catheter-based instruments that allow the surgeon to open the sinus, and restore normal drainage and function without the removal of bone or tissue.
After the application of local anesthesia a thin catheter will be gently placed into the affected sinus cavity and the balloon is softly inflated for 5 seconds. This gently expands the opening allowing the sinuses to drain. Once all the affected areas are treated the instrument is removed.
What are the benefits of Balloon Sinuplasty?
The technology gives the surgeon the ability to open the sinuses and promote aeration and drainage with minimal discomfort, bleeding, and recovery time. The procedure is done using local anesthesia in the comfort of our office, so you don’t have to worry about the negative reactions and complications of general anesthesia or the clinical setting of an outpatient setting.
Because the technique gently reshapes the sinuses instead of cutting bone and tissue, the recovery is much faster than with traditional sinus surgery. In most cases, patients may return to normal activity within 24 to 48 hours.
Healthcare costs are generally lower as the Balloon Sinuplasty is done right in office. Therefore lowering the financial burden for eligible patients through reduced copay. and procedural costs. It provides a conservative approach that does not prevent future treatment options.
